When Walt Arfons and Bobby were first building the jet cars in Walt's garage on Pickle
Road in Akron, there was a swampy area out back. After a year
or so there was no more swamp because they would test fire the cars
out the back bay doors and it dried the wet land up.
If one of them got cut working with the sheet metal, the other one just sewed
him up with a needle and thread. They did all
the welding, bending and assembly themselves, so that in each car
there was the soul of those two wonderful guys.
I will send more stories as I think of them. We really
loved him, he was such a character, always ready to crack a joke or
help where he could. My son thought so much of him and my brother David that
he named his son for them.
